Nokia Location Tagger; a little test 1

location tagger nokia flickr screendump 1

VIEW MY MAP ON FLICKR ;) HERE

Okay, we are another step closer with auto geo-tagging the photos you make with your (any symbian) Nokia phone equipped with an internal or external GPS module. And it works quite simple. I am only using a Flickr account and that’s the only thing I tested it with, a Nokia N93i and a Nokia LD3W GPS module. First of all you have to download and install the application that you can find right here (klick). Upload the .sis file to your phone and install it. Start the application and give it a few moments to find your GPS and a fix on your location. Then start the camera (it only works with photo’s, not with video) and take a few shots. After a taking a or a few pictures the system notifys you that they are geotagged. Upload to Flickr. If you use a Flickr account you must first tell the system (right here) that you want to place your geotagged photos automatically on the map. Now you can start to upload the photos and tada… the location will show up in the capture under the photo and they are placed on your map in Flickr. I like it ;-)

This part is a copy paste from the Nokia betalabs locationtagger website.

  • Q: What happens if I take pictures while the GPS module is not active yet?
A: Nokia Location Tagger tries to tag pictures to the last “known” coordinates in the last 10 minutes. Since GPS module normally takes some time to initialize, it’s better to launch Camera application a couple of seconds before taking pictures. Launching Camera application will activate Nokia Location Tagger; which will initialize GPS module. You can also bring Nokia Location Tagger window to the foreground to initialize GPS module.Q: Will my battery be empty very fast when running Nokia Location Tagger in the background?
A: Nokia Location Tagger has a time-out feature (by default, it is 5 minutes). If there is no picture until time-out time, the GPS module will be turned off. This will normally save power. You can change the time-out option in the settings (2, 5 (default), or 10 minutes)Q: How can I view the GPS coordinates of my pictures?
A: The GPS coordinates are stored in the EXIF header of JPEG files. Some online sites, such as Flickr and Panoramio are able to display GPS coordinate from the EXIF. For more info on these services, please see below. You can also use photo organized software that read EXIF, such as Picasa (with the combination of Google Earth).Q: How can I set Flickr to automatically import location in my uploaded pictures, and place them on a map accordingly?
A: Please go to this URL: http://www.flickr.com/account/geo/exif, sign in, tick the yes please box and click save. From now on, all new tagged pictures that you upload will automatically be placed on a map. Also underneath every picture, there will be a map link that – after you click on it – shows where the picture is taken. Here are some examples. A nice alternative to Flickr is Panoramio. After uploading your pictures, you can view them on Google Maps but also export them to Google Earth. Here are some examples.
  • Tested with: Nokia N95, N95 8GB, N82, E90, N73. Should work but not fully tested with: all Nokia Nseries devices based on S60 3rd edition.Requires either an integrated GPS receiver, or an external Bluetooth GPS receiver module. Sharing your location-tagged pictures online requires Share Online 3.0.

General Electric will launch a GPS equipped consumer camera 1

General Electric E1035, E1235, E1050 and a special variant with a GPS chip for automatic geotagging ;)

GE E-series compact cameras
The current top line in GE’s first foray into digital cameras is topped off by the E-series. As with all the models in the GE range, the E1035, E1235 and E1050 all sport exactly the same feature set (well, almost) with clever things like blink detection (the camera suggests you retake a picture if the subject blinked) and three-into-one in-camera panorama mode.Once again the principle difference between the E1035 and E1235 is resolution, with 10 and 12 megapixel sensors respectively. Both feature a 24mm thick body and a 2.7” LCD screen. The big bonus with these cameras is they feature a wider lens than most compacts; the 3x optical, 4.5x optical zoom starts from 28mm (35mm equivalent).

A special variant of the E1035 is scheduled for launch later in the year. Called the E1050g, the camera also included a GPS chip to allow easy geotagging of your images. Ideal for uploading your images to Google Earth or similar.

The 1035 and 1235 should be available from April. The price for the 1035 is not specified as yet, but the 1235 should be around £130.

GE’s top camera will be the E1050, anticipated to cost around £150. This 10megapixel camera will feature a 3” touchscreen LCD, with a 5x optical and 4.5x digital zoom function. It will also feature HDMI connectivity to a high-resolution plasma or LCD screen; the E1050 is claimed to be the first HDMI-equipped compact that can connect to a TV set without the need for a docking station. So far, only mock-ups of this camera have been shown to the press, but we expect to see more at PMA at the end of the month.

Nokia Location Tagger Screendump

With Nokia Location Tagger, you can automatically tag your location data to your pictures. As you take a picture, your GPS coordinates are saved to the EXIF header of the JPEG file. You can use this data later, for example, to locate your pictures on a map.

In the near future, Nokia hopes to make location tagging a seamlessly integrated part of the Nokia experience. Until then, Nokia Location Tagger is a small standalone application that gives you a sneak preview.

“We are not planning to productize this application as such, but we’d love to hear your thoughts already now, so that we have time to take it into account in the mainstream development”.

First sailing trip of this year 0

After a couple of months waiting in the marina the boat was smiling at me. The weather was fantastic and I decided to go out sailing. Only, there was hardly any wind. 2 Kts only but the behaviour of the boat is so good that even sailing against the wind I reached a speed of 2 kts. This photo was taken on the way back to the marina with the sails down and the motor on. I’ve had to make it to the sluice before dark ;)

GyPSii lanceert locatiegebonden sociaal netwerkplatform 0

Gypsii

gypsii

voor mobiele telefoons wereldwijd; Baanbrekende toepassing gaat live;
Toename in toestellen, landen en community’s

GyPSii,
Barcelona.

- allemaal in real-time.

webtopclient – nu verkrijgbaar in tien talen, waaronder Koreaans,

of per regio.

Over GyPSii

Modu 1

Press release (I bought shares)

modu

( BW)(MODU) modu Starts a Significant Co-Operation with Telecom
Italia, the Largest Telecommunication Operator in Italy

Telecommunications Writers
Mobile World Congress 2008
Hospitality Suite: Z6.2
Booth: 7E46

KFAR-SABA, Israel–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 7, 2008–modu today
announced that it has recently formed a co-operation with Telecom
Italia related to modu’s unique mobile portfolio.

modu has developed a personalized mobile phone concept that allows
customers to use a slimmed down, standalone mobile phone (the modu)
that can be enclosed in an endless variety of modu jackets and modu
mates to reflect the customer’s mood, personality, tastes and need for
functionality.

The modu jackets and modu mates will allow unlimited variations:
they could have the appearance of a standard phone (slider, clam,
etc), but may assume new guises as other brands (fashion, sport,
lifestyle) join the modu revolution and design modu jackets and modu
mates of their own, in addition to the products modu itself will be
manufacturing.

The modu concept frees consumers from the constraints of static,
inflexible and outdated handsets, redefining the market and opening it
up to new entrants from outside the mobile world. The modu approach -
a world first – is aimed at giving consumers greater choice and
flexibility in the way they buy mobile phones, as well as making
personal communications more personal, varied and fun.

For operators, the benefits are numerous: modu’s business model
means operators now have an additional opportunity to engage in a
positive dialogue with their subscribers by offering them a wider and
more appealing choice of handset models and styles; they can also
create and build new communities and segments among their subscriber
base, leading to increased usage, additional handsets, greater loyalty
and reduced churn.

modu has announced that a wide range of mobile products, including
a range of modu jackets, are scheduled to be commercially available
later this year.

Dov Moran, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of modu, said:
“This co-operation with Telecom Italia is a milestone for modu, and is
among the first of a number of such deals we are negotiating with
prominent mobile network operators as the modu revolution takes off.

“We have found in our discussions with operators that they are
keen to embrace exciting new concepts. As soon as they see what modu
has to offer, they want to partner with us because we represent a
solution to a problem that has been challenging them for some time:
how to refresh and revitalize the subscriber experience. modu helps
them do that in a meaningful way.

“modu is all about making new connections, and the co-operation
with Telecom Italia helps us achieve that goal. We are delighted that
Telecom Italia shares our passion and our vision. It has been a
pleasure working with the Telecom Italia management team to align our
respective strategies around this co-operation, and we look forward to
this bearing fruit over the coming months.”

According to Leo Tranquilli, VP Handsets of Telecom Italia, modu’s
product concept is in line with Telecom Italia’s innovation trends, in
that it enables the success of innovative services through the
enrichment of the customer experience. Telecom Italia’s innovation
leverages on the launch of very innovative and specialized products,
which improve the overall experience of the customer, increase VAS
ARPU and high-value customers’ loyalty.

Paolo Paganucci, VP Scouting & Benchmarking of Telecom Italia,
adds: “The industry abounds with success stories in which a specific
application (for example e-mail, GPS navigation, music on the move,
etc.) is identified with the vertical device. On the other hand,
operators’ and customers’ dreams of the “Swiss army knife” handset is
currently a letdown from the perspective of the customer experience
especially on innovative services.

The collaboration with modu goes in the direction of overcoming
this dichotomy, thanks to a new paradigm which gives the possibility
to change the customer experience of the service without changing the
device. The customer will be able to choose the preferred ergonomics
and functionality that best suits his needs in any particular moment
and context.”

The cooperation with Telecom Italia is the first in a line of
deals modu is negotiating with leading global mobile network operators
(MNOs) in other countries to ensure that the modu platform achieves
widespread penetration and user uptake once products are available in
the fourth quarter of 2008.

NOTES TO EDITORS

About modu

www.modumobile.com

modu was established by Dov Moran and several of his colleagues
from msystems, a company he founded and sold to SanDisk in 2006 for
$1.6B. modu’s vision is to bring a fundamental change to the dynamics
of the mobile phone industry. The company is dedicated to developing
products, technologies, a wide ecosystem and business relationships
that will help realize that ambition. modu will have its official
launch at the Mobile World Congress, being held in Barcelona, Spain in
February 2008.

modu gives users the freedom to choose a new phone as often as
they like, meeting their changing needs, preferences and style- easily
and affordably. At the heart of the modu ecosystem is modu – a tiny
and sophisticated mobile phone. modu can be slipped into a wide
variety of modu jackets – stylish phone enclosures that enable users
to create a new look or design and provide added functionality. modu
can also slip into modu mates- consumer electronic devices that are
modu-enabled – allowing users to create an entirely new communication
experience.
